Some people wait until the weekend of the Full or New Moon to celebrate. While not all aspects of Halloween are connected to Samhain, many of itвЂ™s traditions and inspirations have survived and are still celebrated. Most commonly, Samhain is celebrated from October 30 to November 1st, eventually merging to create what we now call Halloween. No matter what you call it, itвЂ™s traditionally celebrated at the midpoint between Fall and Winter. Sahm-Hain is the American pronunciation, with the Irish using Sow-in (the actual pronunciation) and the Welsh using Sah-vin. The name of Samhain is pronounced one of three ways depending on who you ask. According to the Coligny calendar, it commenced with three days called the Trinouxtion Samonii, the Three Nights of the End of Summer. The earliest reference seems to likely be on theВ Coligny calendar, which began the year with a month called Samonios, a name which is echoed in the modern Irish name for November, Samhain. Nos Calan Gwaf is the name for Samhain and Halloween in Kernow. Some of their stories include: The Yr Hwch Ddu Gwtaor black sow without a tail,and the Lady in White. They celebrate with dancing, feasting and more. Also known as Calan Gaef, this is the first day of winter and Nos Calan Gaef is the night before. Many of them are similar to Samhain and itвЂ™s celebrations. There are many Holidays celebrated through various cultures are the end of October.
